Beth Kanter knows the nonprofit world pretty well. She might have some perspective on why one should go nonprofit.
To go for profit: I think the main thing is to talk to an Angel investor. If you find a serious one and they offer you some money… that would be a pretty convincing argument.
I’m going to send the posts to my entrepreneurship professor (best professor I’ve ever had). He has experience in both profit/non-profits and his specialty is tech. He may have interesting thoughts for us.
How are we soliciting their insights? Asking them to respond to our posts? Sending them a list of questions? Holding a conference call with all of them together?
@Lauren: That’s a good question. I don’t think the blog comments are the best forum for this. If it’s a call, it should probably be recorded and the interviewer should write up notes. Or it could be e-mail.
I’d think phone would be easy, if the person has time. If we do e-mail there should be a standard recap/intro as to our situation so the person can better advise us.
Inside CoPress is our Team Blog where we have an open conversation about the direction of CoPress as an organization. Ideas are presented, meetings are podcasted, and we try to discuss big decisions in as open of a manner as possible.

@Dave: Thanks!
