Social Media Ninja Dashboard

Earlier today Mark Briggs sat on a college media panel and asked whether we’d be around to answer questions (I’d link to the tweet, but I’m writing this on my phone). Greg happened to be online at the time and responded to his message. It got me to thinking about setting up a social media dashboard for CoPress though because, although I’m confident someone is apt to be online when we get a message, I’d like to make sure we aren’t missing anything.

People have begun using Twitter (and when I say Twitter, I mean Twitter plus other social media) as faux email, but there isn’t really an instant inbox. There’s Twitter search and RSS, which I’m subscribed to, but also at least a 12 hour delay in NetNewsWire. Instead, I’d like to get some sort of alert in real time everytime “@copress” is mentioned.

Having this on a dashboard would allow all of us participate in customer service, although one person certainly should be the point person. To bring this back to the morning’s example, I’d like to have a place to check to ensure that Mark’s message was responded to, and maybe even see the response, without having to email everyone.

Thoughts? Has anyone set this up before?

I’ve got searches set in TweetDeck and Tweetie, but @auzigog yesterday pointed out CoTweet. I’m cautious about more programs (especially when they’re only desktop-based), but it could be useful. Otherwise, I think we’ve managed to be very responsive and I’m inclined to think that further complicating things is not entirely necessary. Efficiency comes from trusting the systems we’ve put in place.

Right, I agree. CoTweet looks like to a good program to use if we need to scale, fwiw.

How do you set a search in Tweetie? I know how to use the search function, but not entirely sure how to have it saved. Also, do you know how to get it to generate short urls? Tks
